CT Startup Launches 169 Town & City Gift Cards Across The State

Company aims to boost local spending and draw attention to small businesses

Bristol, Connecticut
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

A Bristol-based startup company has just launched 169 different gift card programs for each town or city in Connecticut. Each program offers unique targeted support to local businesses by offering gift cards that can only be spent at independent businesses in that particular town or city (list of CT card programs).

The company behind the programs is Giverrang, which builds Community Gift Card programs for towns and cities to drive local spending to small businesses and keep more dollars local.

Each Connecticut town or city gift card can be spent at any independent business in that town or city. Cards intentionally can not be spent at chain stores like Mcdonald's or Walmart. Interested buyers can visit each card program’s web page to purchase a card (like the Hartford Local Gift Card), and to see a selection of suggested merchants approved to accept the card in the area.

“The whole idea is to drive more attention and dollars to small businesses across our state and away from the big chains and online giants,” explained Mark Walerysiak Jr., Head of Card Programs at Giverrang.

“We feel it’s important to give people an easy way to support local businesses,” added Roy Paterson, Head of Product at Giverrang. “We want to help people make a positive impact on our local economy.”

With the U.S. gift card market fast approaching $200 billion (source: Research & Markets), and the majority of it going to national chains, Giverrang hopes to refocus that spending on independent businesses that power our local economy.

The company says the problem with shopping local today is it can be confusing and inconvenient. The result is many people end up falling back on what’s easy and buy familiar Amazon or chain store gift cards. Giverrang’s solution is to eliminate the stress of finding local gifts by providing a universal local gift card that combines dozens of local gift cards from an area into one convenient package. This makes it easy for gift givers to support local businesses while giving happy gift recipients unbeatable local options.

The cards are plastic Mastercard gift cards that can be purchased online through each town or city card web page. Buyers can ship a card directly to a gift recipient’s address or send it to themselves to hand the recipient the card in-person. Cards arrive within 7-10 days.

Giverrang’s second major announcement is the company’s social mission to give back. They are launching a Local Affiliate program that is seeking local economic development organizations such as Main Street associations and Chambers of Commerce that are interested in raising money by promoting a Local Gift Card program in their area. For every card these organizations help sell, Giverrang will donate a percentage of profits to each organization as part of Giverrang’s mission to strengthen the institutions that support independent small businesses across Connecticut. “We’re excited to help as many local businesses as we can in our home state and we hope this resonates with people and they want to support it,” said Walerysiak Jr.. “A Local Gift Card makes an awesome gift for family, friends, or employees. Plus, it makes a real difference in helping our local businesses not just survive but thrive.”
